I was so sorry to hear, at the our last reunion that Mike had passed away  .... seemed way too soon, and I'm not sure of the details, but hope someone adds to my comments that knows.  I would like to provide some comments:

Mike and I rode a bus from Fullerton to LA on Sunday night following our graduation .... so it was train trip to San Diego, Saturday at Newport Beach, pack for LA and leave on Sunday.  We spent the night in a "not so great" hotel and on Monday morning Mike, Kirk Buhre and I went through our physicals for the USAF.  That afternoon we flew to Lackland Air Force Base to start Basic Training.  Note:  Tom Gienapp was supposed to join us (we all four enlisted in May), but he decided to enjoy his summer a little bit longer and delayed his entry.  Mike, Kirk and I were all in the same Squad though basic and when we finished we all headed to different tech schools for training.  By coincidence Mike and I were both home on 30 days leave the summer of '66.  I had a Honda 305 motorcycle and Mike went out and bought one.  We spent almost every day and night riding together for 30 days .... most days going to the beach.  At the end of that 30 days we both headed to South East Asia and promised we would keep the bikes, reconnect after our one year tour of duty and come home to another 30 days leave to ride again.  That never happend and I tried, but never connected with him again. I understand he reenlisted at the end of his 4 years, while I got out .... understand Kirk got stationed in Hawaii and never found out what happened to Tom.   ...... wish we would have had one more ride!

So sorry to hear about Mike's passing.  I didn't know him well, but had him a couple of my classes in high school.  Because of our last names starting with (C-A) my senior class picture is next to Mike's, and I just realized from his gravestone we were born on the exact same day...He died so young...How sad.
